 Educational Programs

ABFR’s goal is to not only take in the birds who seek new homes but also to place them with appropriate and carefully screened people who are willing to work with the birds and learn the necessary skills to fully understand the commitment they are making and what it takes to care for a companion bird.

We have a mandatory 1 hour class and bird care pamphlets that are necessary before becoming a foster home or wishing to adopt with our rescue.

With each bird that is fostered or adopted you will be given a handout on that particular bird to help in a smooth transition for both bird and adoptee.

Full disclosure of any past aggressive issues will be told to any and all who wish to adopt or be a foster home.
We will also be working with the schools to give presentations throughout the Eugene/Springfield area.

ABFR will also offer to pet stores if the need arises the chance to help out with any employee.

The purpose of a program like this is to offer training to staff who deal with birds on a regular basis so that they can pass on that knowledge to those who purchase birds there and provide a full and healthy life for those avian friends in their store.

ABFR will also bring birds for adoption to any informational classes and work with the pet stores as partners once a month to find the birds homes. This way the public can see the birds we offer and then can attend the mandatory class and will proceed on then to the next step.
