| ABFR will have behavioral lists for each species that we have in
rescue and each potential adoptee will receive a copy. This is why keeping a log
will help the foster home and adoptive family know for sure which type of bird
will work best for their family and lifestyle. You must be a member of ABFR
to be a foster home before you can adopt one of our charges. After an application
you must agree to: 1. Provide copies of driver or identification numbers for
all adults with current address. 2. Have a home inspection where ABFR will
determine if there is suitability for the bird. 3. Give to ABFR 3 references
and understand that ABFR will contact those references. 4. Understand that
ABFR will bring the bird and all necessary supplies and that you will notify 18
ABFR if you need food , toys, or any type of accessories. 5. If
you need to leave for a trip we request that if you must leave the bird with someone
ABFR wishes to meet the person to see if they are qualified and capable of handling
a foster bird. 6. This applies for a short trip of 2-3 days to 2 weeks. If
the need arises due to an family emergency where the time could exceed the 2 week
period we need the bird and all supplies returned to ABFR. We can
not say if when you return that bird would still be available but we will try
to accommodate such requests. 7. ABFR needs to have monthly visits with the
foster birds and we will call ahead of time to set a time that works for all.
8. You must have a working phone while fostering an ABFR bird so that you can
call if there are any problems. If your phone number changes we will notify ABFR.
9. You must notify ABFR immediately if a bird is lost, stolen, escaped or
died. If the bird has died please store the body in a refrigerator and return
it to us within 24 hours. ABFR will conduct an investigation of the death and
you will cooperate with this investigation. If the cause of death is due to neglect
or abuse the foster family will be subject to payment of the adoption fee of that
bird. 10. You will not give away or sell the bird while you are fostering
and if found to be so criminal theft charges will be filed with the proper authorities.
11. If after one year from signing the foster agreement and you do not adopt the
bird ABFR may move the bird to a new foster home to prevent the distress on both
the bird and the foster family that comes from long periods of bonding and then
removal from the home. 12. If such action is taken ABFR asks that you help
the new foster home by making periodic visits and phone calls to check on the
bird and then
decrease the visits gradually as the bird becomes adjusted
and make a copy of the log to help the new foster home. 13. ABFR will have
the right if neglect or abuse is in evidence to remove the bird while fostering
the bird. However, it must be proven evidence. 14. You must return in good
condition any items that were loaned to you for the care of the foster bird upon
removal of the bird. 15. You must agree to uphold the care of the bird as
stated by ABFR. 16. You understand that ABFR will have made sure that your
bird was given a well check and that its health cannot be guaranteed and that
ABFR is not responsible for any illness that may happen to other birds
in your home as a result. This is why the 30 day quarantine period is so important.
17. You must be willing to learn how to give medicine and have an equipped avian
first aid kit. You will be given a handout with the foster bird on what is needed
in the kit. 18. You will contact ABFR when the bird needs its wings,
nails or beak trimmed. 19. You will supplement the birds diet with fresh fruits,
veggies and other fresh foods at your expense. ABFR will supply seeds and pellets.
20. You will keep the birds environment clean and not smoke in the home. Also,
each bird must have their own cage no sharing of cages without contacting ABFR.
21. You will be sure to handle tame birds each day providing exercise and bathing
the birds. You will be given information at the mandatory class of different types
of bathing available. 22. ABFR will not pay for damage to persons or property
or other animals injured by the foster bird. And you will fully accept this risk. 23.
If all of the above is agreed upon by both ABFR and the foster home applicant
then we will proceed to the next step. 24. All of the above requirements apply
to being an adoptive family also and at no time will these be not adhered to by
both foster homes or adoptive homes . 25. You must be a foster home for
a minimum 30-120 days before you can place an adoption application and as a foster
home you have first right to adopt the bird. However, ABFR does not exchange birds
once the adoption process has begun. |
